Microsoft is planning to use ChatGPT and possibly GPT-4 technology to provide more human-like answers to search queries on Bing, in an effort to make Bing more competitive with Google. This move could help Bing rival Google’s Knowledge Graph, and the new feature is expected to launch before the end of March.

The main benefits of using this service include:

  • a hybrid of a standard search engine and a GPT-style chatbot, and it provides humanlike answers to questions instead of just links to information.
  • a proprietary tool called Prometheus that extracts search terms from users’ requests, runs those queries through Bing’s search index, and then uses those search results in combination with its own language model to formulate a response.
  • a marked improvement over ChatGPT, and it is especially momentous for Microsoft, which has struggled to gain a foothold in search for years.

Use cases of this service could include leveraging the power of GPT text generation for creating personalised content for customers, or providing instant access to local information and news.
